In order to know what kind of food you eat, it`s important to read the declarations. The control number of fruits or vegetables reveal everything – whether it is genetically modified food, or traditionally treated with pesticides, or organically grown.
If the label or the tag has a four-digit number that starts with 3 or 4, such as bananas with the number 4011, it is a food that is traditionally grown, which means that some pesticides were used to grow the fruit or the vegetable, but not genetically modified.
If you find a five-digit number that starts with the digit 8, then it is genetically modified food. For example, the number of genetically modified food would be 84011. Often, genetically modified food is marked with three-digit number.
80% OF ALL PROCESSED FOODS IN THE
UNITED STATES CONTAIN GMOS
If your fruit or vegetable has a five-digit number that starts with 9, then you can be sure that it is organic food and does not contain any GMOs. For example, the number of organic bananas will be: 94011
Most often genetically modified fruits and vegetables are apples, grapes, strawberries, blueberries, peaches, oranges, cherries, peppers, cucumbers, spinach, nectarines, kale, green beans, corn and potatoes.
On the other hand, there is food that is rarely genetically modified, like mango, avocado, pineapple, melon, watermelon, grapefruit, kiwi, garlic, tomato, beans, cabbage, mushrooms and sweet potato.
